Ethical aspects of torture, humanitarian intervention, corruption, plagiarism, and divorce

In fact, I did not expect to see more than ten contemporary ethical issues as I got. Since last two lectures I got knowledge on those issues which can be considered from ethical perspective in every country such as abortion, suicide, cloning, surrogacy, death penalty, and so on. This week I still faced to last five ethical issues which occur daily in human life and need to be voiced up. Anyway, I love to know about things that related to human moral to get the direct of how right or wrong they are and from that I can avoid the wrongness. All of three lectures on these issues were instructed by Dr. Fausi with his so enthusiastic explanation to students.

The first one which Dr. Fausi mentioned in the lecture was about torture. It is the way of inflicting pain or injury on others. It is also considered as a kind of murder. I think in all countries in the world torture is prohibited and impractical since it is immoral hurt people a lot. Concerning on torture I just soon remembered when I was a child I watched Chinese movie a lot. Particularly, ancient Chinese movies which were in palaces of royals with kings, queens, princes, princesses and stories appeared among people belong to royal. Those movies reflected mainly on life in palaces with conflicts of competing for survive and happiness. The most important thing which links my memories with the lesson is that in those Chinese movies, people in royal used cruel torture to people who did wrong or simply innocent to be blamed. They keep hands of prisoners among bamboo sticks in make it strongly painful until the prisoners admit their mistakes. Other than that, in ancient Chinese royal there are many harsh punishments else such as suicide and hang or cutting head the murderers. Those kind of punishments are highly prohibited and against human rights in nowadays society.

The second ethical issue was humanitarian intervention. It is an escape and intervene for those people who subjected in torture or being abused against human rights. This intervention is a protective measure which provides the way to stop hostility and also humanitarian intervention is very helpful during natural disasters or emergency situations. I would like to take an example from my country to show the effective function of this intervention on human. In Vietnam, we have many humanitarian organisations which always give hands to people who are poor, living in difficulties or calamities such as supporting policies from government especially the red plus association help citizens who get hurt, lost family, homeless during natural disasters.

The third point I want to share here in my reflective diary is about corruption. This is spiritual and moral impurity which may include many activities like bribery and embezzlement. I believe that corruption happen in every single country in this world. In my opinion, corruption is always together with inflation and they somehow support and relate to each other. Corruption especially appears among governmental offices, inside companies/corporations, and those offices have authority over citizens. Corruption is like a worm which only brings negative effects on economy of the country as well as survival of people within that particular country.

Plagiarism is continued in my sharing here. Miss Vino was lecturing the two last ethical issues which were about plagiarism and divorce. First, plagiarism is a very popular and familiar phrase with us especially among students. It is a way of steal or taking ideas, thoughts, or words of others. This happen usually and very considerable issue in academic field as student just use the method of copying and pasting without citing the author’s sources.

Last one of the ethics lectures also the last contemporary ethical issue which we covered in almost three weeks is about divorce. It is far for us since we are now just a student but it sounds helpful for us to know about that for later life. As what I understand about divorce, it happens when spouses (husband and wife) get conflicts and end with a separate life to each other. They accept to sign an official paper and become no responsible to a family life any more. However, divorce causes hurts and many problems to family members especially children. Children is the one who need warm family most, need love of both parents for them to live strongly in this life when no one cares of them like parents. If mother and father live separately then how hurt children will be, they become sad, worry, live in a shortage of love, and may tend to participate in mistakenly social activities such as playing cards, drinking, drug and so on.

This last lecture gave me a lot of useful experience for my life and it also helped me bright my mind up of the problems and lessons to avoid those social incidents.
